Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a cover take to design?

Lead times vary based on my schedule during any given week. Average lead times for a first draft cover are anywhere between 2 weeks to one month. Final design time also depends on the number of the revisions we make to the design.

What if I have a deadline for publishing?

it is very important that all deadlines be communicated well in advance. My ability as your designer to meet deadlines is dependent on your ability to provide all required information in a timely manner. I cannot be held responsible for missed deadlines due to unavailable or inaccurate information, including (but not limited to): print specifications (page count, trim size, etc), blurbs/taglines, author bios/photos, excessive revisions, etc.

If you’re on a time crunch and want to check my availability, I recommend sending me an e-mail!

How are payments handled?

All payments are sent via Paypal. When you first submit your Project Questionnaire, I will verify package pricing with you and send an invoice for 50% of your project’s total. This deposit must be paid prior to project scheduling.

When the cover is approved and complete, I will send the invoice for the remaining half of the project.

The final invoice MUST be paid before receiving any finished files/deliverables.

How will I receive my deliverables?

When a project is complete, I create a Dropbox folder with your name on it and send you the link. You can download your cover files or access them using the link any time!

I always recommend bookmarking your Dropbox link, as I will put all your finished files for all future projects there for ease of access.

The only people that can access your Dropbox link are those with whom you share the link. I do not share your folder with anyone other than you, unless you tell me to.

Am I limited to using a certain number of stock images?

Cover package pricing includes use of as many Shutterstock assets as needed over the course of the project. Sometimes, though, you may find the perfect stock image elsewhere–but that’s not a problem!

However, if you request elements that are not royalty-free (such as commercial fonts, non-Shutterstock images, etc), you may be responsible for the cost of the license of that element. You may also provide your own photographs for use on covers, but I do require that a signed model release form and all proper permissions/documentation be submitted to me before I can use the images on your cover. I reserve the right to refuse to use client-supplied images if I feel that the proper permissions have not been obtained.

What if I want to add a design service to my package later?

No problem! If you thought you wanted an e-book only, but later decide on adding a print or audio cover into the mix, we can add those a la carte. The additional cost of those items will be included on your final invoice.

What if I'm not happy with my design?

As a designer, I strive to go above and beyond for my clients. But sometimes, an artist’s “style” might not meet the author’s vision for their cover.

I will make every effort to make substantive revisions as needed to make the cover perfect for you. In the event that you’re not happy with the design and wish to cancel the project, the 50% deposit paid at the beginning of the project may be forfeit or partially refunded, depending on the amount of revisions/hours of work time into the project.

If you have questions about my refund policy, please get in touch with me.

Will I have PSD rights to my cover?

PSD rights are NOT included with deliverables. This is to protect the quality and integrity of my work.

Working PSD files are only provided in rare/special circumstances–please feel free to contact me if you have questions about what circumstances apply.
